As an organisation, we recognise how important it is for Set Training to be a safe, welcoming, and trusted place for young people. We have always prided ourselves on being inclusive. To ensure that we continue to offer this support, in May 2021, Set Training started the process to achieve the LGBT Charter.

The LGBT Charter is a programme that enables our organisation to proactively include LGBT people in every aspect of our work, protecting our candidates and staff and providing high-quality service to our customers. The programme has allowed us to undertake training and review policies, practices and resources to make sure that we are not only meeting legislative needs but are as inclusive as we can be.

Working towards the LGBT Charter enables us to send a positive message, with confidence, that our organisation is a champion of LGBT inclusion where LGBT employees and customers will be safe, supported and included. The LGBT Charter makes a clear statement that equality and diversity are at the heart of our organisation.

We have taken the following steps to ensure that we continue to offer support:

  • We consulted with our customers on their impressions of Set Training
  • We consulted with staff on how comfortable they are in being themselves as an employee
  • We hold memorial and celebratory days for events like Glasgow Pride
  • We have participate in and promote LGBT history month
  • We have made relationships with LGBT charities

Following on from the consultations with our customers and staff, we made key changes to our policies and procedures that mean we have more inclusive languages.

It has been a pleasure for Set Training to work towards the LGBT Charter and we aim to continue with the inclusive work as we cannot underestimate the value it adds to our customers and our staff.
