How Set Training Started
Set Training originally started as “Spohrt Training”. Spohrt Training was launched by ex-professional football player Roddy Manley. He had a vision to help fellow footballers easily make a career change from the profession and integrate into the world of work. The company was created to offer employability support to people of all ages including offering development programmes, qualifications and career change advice. Spohrt Training then started to specialise in delivering advice and programmes for 16-19 year olds, trading as Set Training.
Roddy Manley
For Roddy, the concept behind Spohrt Training was to help footballers with a career change and to help them find work. This also includes helping them improve their education and guiding them through training courses. After leaving the football profession, Roddy found it a shock to the system looking for work as he has never considered before what the future would hold after hanging up his football boots. Many footballers have never been through any sort of interview process and don’t have the necessary qualifications to get a job, which was why Roddy wanted to ensure they had support and options is football was no longer the route for them.
Spohrt Training would offer employability support, development programmes, qualifications and careers advice. As well as this we then started to successfully deliver apprenticeships with expertise in a range of technical and digital disciplines. This includes Digital Application Support, IT Support Technician, Cyber Security, Digital Marketing apprenticeships and broader digital literacy programmes. Digital Literacy has gained recognition as the most valuable tool for lifelong learning. When we started to deliver apprenticeships, we decided that we wanted to widen our focus to all young individuals that were looking to kickstart their career or change their career route, rather than solely young footballers.
Set Training and Resourcing
Once we were trading as Set Training, we began to expand quickly, helping young people from lots of different backgrounds into apprenticeships within a variety of companies. To this day we are still helping young people into modern apprenticeships and are always happy to help with CV skills and interview tips. Since our clients that have been taking on apprentices with us were so impressed, there was a big demand for us to help with their permanent recruitment. So now not only do we provide modern apprenticeships but we also help recruit for permanent and temporary roles, now trading as Set Training and Resourcing.
